Need to Sell a Home? Tips for Maintaining Curb Appeal in Winter

Tips for selling your home in the winter

If you’re trying to sell a home, you may feel that there is nothing you can do to help maintain the curb appeal of your property for sale in winter. While it may be more difficult, it’s definitely not impossible to do, but will require a little more creativity than normal if you are to pull it off. Here are some ideas you can use to draw visitors in to your property and give them a positive first impression.

Choose winter hardy plants for your landscape - While colorful blossoms may be out of the question, you can still add some visual interest to your garden by planting some ornamental grasses, evergreens and winter cabbage in bright colorful containers. Place a couple of containers near your entryway in order to make it the focal point of your property.

Make your own visual displays - Accent some of your hardscape elements by adding sprigs of colorful berries, pinecones, or artificial twigs to them. Make the bowl of your birdbath a container for a luscious centerpiece, or place hanging baskets on a retaining wall and fill them with colorful displays instead.

Make your porch welcoming - Rather than cover your outdoor furniture, leave your pieces out and uncovered so that visitors to your home can envision themselves using this space during the summer months. Add a vase full of artificial flowers to your table and some artificial greenery in potted containers to your deck railing. You could even add an indoor/outdoor rug to the floor of your porch, along with a colorful wreath for your front door.

Put a spotlight on it - You may need outdoor lighting more than ever during the winter. Rather than settling for white or yellow bulbs, choose some in a soft amber, yellow or orange instead. These shades will provide your landscape with a tad bit of color without making it appear too brilliant and overwhelming.

The best way to ensure your home has curb appeal is to ensure your driveway, sidewalks, and walkways are clear before potential buyers arrive. Fallen tree limbs should be picked up right away so as not to make your yard appear unkempt. By taking a little extra time, you can ensure your home appears well kept no matter what the weather is like outside. "Before, during and after our closing, Jim was on the phone constantly, informing us of our next step or impending negotiations. In addition, our closing couldn't have been smoother; and most of it was due to Jim’s pre-closing preparations. The pleasure was all ours!"
